About
Hi, I am Sam, Sam I am, (insert Dr. Seuss rhyme here). First of all let me say that I absolutely love what I do, and for this gift from God, I am truly grateful. I have had my own business since 1996, and became incorporated in 2011. Throughout that time, I have completed a wide variety of projects both large and small. For example, I have repaired all the recessed door knobs and locksets in an historic home, and lifted an entire house, more than one actually, and dug a new basement under it. Whether the project is large or small, my focus and goal remains the same, that is, to have the materials that I work with, and the work that I do, last as long as it possibly can.
The mission statement of Sam Shell Custom Carpentry Inc. is, "To provide exceptional goods and services for the preservation, repair, and repurposing of our built environment, resulting in long term financial savings and generational peace of mind."
It brings me great joy when I can save or restore something that is damaged or broken, and the delight in rebuilding a lost piece of history is hard to describe. I am a collector of lost knowledge and trades, (and books and tools on the subject), which, as the need arises, I use to help do and/or redo whatever the project demands.
I only work on one project at a time, on a first come first served basis, and find that eliminating the distraction of having several things going at once, helps me be more efficient and effective in my work.
While my home and office is in Highland County Virginia, I have finished many projects in Bath and Augusta, and have worked as far away as New Jersey and Maryland. I am a licensed general contractor in the state of Virginia, and am fully insured.

Many Thanks, Sam Shell
